Mission
It shall be the continuing policy of the Tribes to protect, preserve and enhance the Skagit fishery habitat and the natural resources and environment which affect the quality of that habitat. It shall be the goal of the Tribes environmental policy to achieve a net gain in the productive capacity of the Skagit Fishery habitat.
Primary Programs/Projects
- Harvest management of the Skagit and Samish River stocks, as well as other finfish and shellfish stocks in usual and accustomed fishing areas.
- Habitat management of marine and freshwater environments in the Skagit and Samish River basins, as well as usual and accustomed shellfishing areas.
- Hatchery management and production.
- Fisheries research and monitoring.
Reason for Participating on the Skagit Watershed Council
A consistent, technically defensible restoration strategy for salmon habitat within the Skagit River Watershed that is adopted by all participants of the Watershed Council. A public outreach program to inform the citizens of Skagit County about the status of fish and fish habitat within the County, and mechanisms and biological requirements for protecting and improving habitat.
