Mission
To assist landowners to preserve wildlife habitat, wetlands, agricultural and forestlands, scenic open space and shorelines throughout the mainland and islands of Skagit County.
Primary Programs/Projects
Skagit Land Trust (SLT) works with landowners to help them voluntarily place permanent restrictions on the use of their land to protect it for conservation purposes. This is done through donation or sale of a conservation easement. SLT also receives outright donations of property. Donation of property or a conservation easement may provide significant income and property tax benefits to the donor. The Trust currently protects approximately 2800 acres in Skagit County through thirty-three conservation easements and nineteen parcels of property owned in fee.
The Trust has also assisted its conservation partners in the protection of an additional 170 acres. In addition to continuing its work with landowners who approach the Trust, SLT is actively seeking protection in areas of the county identified as important in its Conservation Strategy. The Trust currently has special project funding from the Salmon Recovery Funding Board to work with landowners of important salmon habitat along the Skagit River between Sedro-Woolley and Concrete and will be participating in an inventory assessment of available properties in the Chuckanut Foothills area.
Reason for Participating on the Skagit Watershed Council
- Better use of limited resources through increased cooperation and collaboration.
- Increased awareness of the need and opportunity for land conservation in Skagit County.
