Mission
The Skagit River System Cooperative (SRSC) provides natural resource management services for the Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe and the Swinomish Indian Tribal community. On behalf of these two sovereign nations, SRSC works to actively improve fisheries and habitat management for fish and wildlife within ceded ancestral territories, which include the Skagit and Samish River basins.
Primary Programs/Projects
- Protection, conservation and restoration of marine and freshwater habitats in the Skagit and Samish River basins. Including those nearshore habitats in the Salish Sea that influence the life history of species associated with the basin.
- Research and monitoring of fish populations and the habitats they depend on.
- Environmental review of Federal, State, Local and private land use activities that could affect fish & wildlife habitat or populations.
- Review and stewardship of harvest and hatchery management practices that affect Skagit and Samish River finfish and shellfish stocks
Reason for Participating on the Skagit Watershed Council
- To support the implementation of a consistent, technically defensible restoration strategy for salmon habitat within the Skagit River Watershed
- To develop and disseminate empirical support for our mission to protect, conserve and restore.
- To develop partnerships and a community synergy that will seek to achieve protection, conservation and restoration of natural resources within the basin.
- As a means to encourage broader public participation and engagement in natural resource issues within the Skagit Basin
