Kara Rowe is the policy director for the Western Washington Agricultural Association. She has served WWAA since 2020 but has served agriculture and farmers for more than 20 years in both Washington and Montana. Raised on a wheat and cattle ranch in eastern Washington, she has a unique perspective on issues facing agriculture today. Kara earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Washington State University, and she has served Washington’s farmers in the areas of marketing, communications, and policy for more than a decade. She understands the complexity and sensitivities unique to the Skagit River watershed and believes that good policy starts with honest conversations and relationships. Kara’s experience in outdoor, agricultural, natural resource and history projects makes her a specialist in building relationships and finding solutions between people, food, wildlife, water, and land. Kara is committed to improving the future of agriculture in Washington and serves on multiple volunteer ag and natural resource boards.
“I am honored to serve on the Skagit Watershed Council’s Board of Directors. I have worked to protect and improve the future of agriculture for more than 20 years. I have witnessed how collaboration and relationships can solve problems and believe this is the only proactive and productive way to move forward on salmon recovery issues. I also believe that salmon recovery in the Skagit River basin will require many intentional, voluntary approaches by everyone in the community, not just farmers.”
